About Me

Upcycled Functional Art | My Story

I am Molly, the artist behind Upcycld Art. And tenacity is my superpower. After college (with a degree in Fine Arts) and a long stint in the design & advertising industry, I decided to chase my dreams rather than somebody else’s. Out of this dream was born – Upcycld Art

Upcycld Art started as a creative outlet to my strong love of art, sustainability and minimalism. So it seemed like a natural fit to combine all of these things into an artistic endeavour that supports my mission: to reduce waste materials and demand of wood, for manufacturing new piece of furniture & decor. I also wish to create innovative upcycled furniture ideas & decor to save trees by reducing deforestation .`

I upcycle discarded object’s not just to maintain their former glory of form and function, but also elevate it by using it as a canvas for my art. I love to create beautiful things with my hands that can be used as eco friendly home decor products.

Hi 👋, My story of how Upcycld Art 🧰 started is very simple. In 2006, I found my niche. Being a nature lover, I chose rejected, broken, cracked wood as my art canvas to create my upcycled functional art. I worked on and sold only commissioned art for many years. I finally created my online art shop in 2009. It has taken a long time, tons of fails and a million learnings, to reach this stage. I started making wooden upcycled artworks when I realised that the demand for wood was increasing and there was no way we could keep up with it. Knowing the fact that deforestation was happening at an alarming rate, I decided to use only eco friendly art materials, natural pigments from plants and rocks, to reduce the chemicals used in painting.

NOT Your Average Decor

My Story | At Upcycld Art – I make handpainted, functional and upcycled art. Art that can be anywhere and everywhere, not just hung on walls. Functional art – as it can be put to use. Upcycled art – as it is born out of rejected wood. I use these scrap wood pieces as my canvas to create art with a purpose.

My mission is to spread awareness about global warming through my artwork and encourage people to reuse their discarded wooden items by reusing them in their homes as creative upcycled furniture. My love for nature inspires me every day, and I hope that through this art form, you’ll be able to live more consciously and make a difference in the world around you!

I follow a few sustainable habits that I follow at my studio. These help me to minimise my impact on the planet on a daily basis:

  • Upcycld Art either reuses old boxes or recycled cardboard for packaging
  • I create my own natural and non-toxic gouache paints out of food waste, flowers and rocks.
  • I do not “create” new products – only upcycle & hand paint discarded wooden items for my upcycled art deco items
  • I recycle and make my own handmade paper for printing my invoices & thank you cards or send e-invoices only
  • My art studio runs on air cooling only
  • I compost all the food waste generated at the studio

Over the years, I have received a lot of love & encouragement from people who have purchased my artworks. I want to thank all my patrons & supporters for being so kind and encouraging me to pursue my passion in this field. If you love handpainted crafts, upcycled pieces, or just want to show off your own eco-friendly style, then check out some of my designs today!
