Home Art Studio Setup – 5 Useful Ideas For You

How to set up your art desk in your home studio

More and more people are turning their personal spaces into work areas these days. Ever since the pandemic began, more than 42% of Indians are working from home full time. Creative people form a large chunk of this number.
Whether you are a freelance creative OR a part time artist, having your own area to make & craft is very important. It might seem like a big task, but with a little planning, you can have a creative space of your own. Right now is the best time to set up a designated space for making your art.
As an Artist/Creative Solopreneur at Design5 Studio, I have gone through the entire process of Home Art Studio Setup myself. I had to move my work space many times over the years. I have learnt a lot about this process too.So, here are some ideas, from my own personal experience, for creating your own Home Art Studio Setup.

A Well Lit Art Desk Is Very Important

Sunlight not only gives us Vitamin D. It also makes the workspace feel open and fresh. Make sure you set up your work desk in a bright spot. Next to a window would be perfect. It will help you feel good inside, stay focused, and see what you’re working on. If you don’t get natural light then invest in some good quality LED lamps to light up your work desk.

Buy Art Supplies From Local Shops

Don’t get hung onto big brand names. Buy your art supplies from local makers and sellers. This will help them in getting business – and let you save some money. Your work does not depend on the price tag of your brush or watercolor tube. This isn’t true at all!

Get Your Priorities Straight

Don’t try to create an “Insta worthy” or “Pinterest Lookalike” studio spaces. Fancy looking furniture might look good in the pictures, but it might not be good for your back. Choose ergonomic chairs, and good sturdy tables for your work.

A Messy Art Studio Is OK

Paint will spatter and ink will drop. So, be ready for such accidents. Keep a cheap rug under your work table if your studio space is in your bedroom or living area. You wouldn’t want to spoil your expensive flooring. Stick self-adhesive tiles on the wall to clean up splatters.

Set Up Rules For Work Time

A home studio might seem like the prefect idea but can have its drawback too. Make some rules around your work times that are comfortable for you. Sticking to a healthy schedule is very important for self employed creatives. Finish your work day at the same time everyday, take weekends off. Ask your family and kids to respect your rules too.

Its All About The Mindset. You don’t need it to be perfect to start. Don’t wait for perfection. Make the space your own and begin creating good work.
