My reason to start making upcycled & handpainted wooden artworks was to make eco-friendly products out of rejected and junk wood. The best part is that you get to help me plant a tree in exchange for every order placed. This is a win-win situation because you’re helping the environment while getting beautiful, one-of-a-kind products!
Upcycled Decor – I love creating these beauties out of rejected, junk wooden items. I repair them slightly, leaving the cracks as they are…it gives the piece a character. I hand-paint these wooden decor items with my own handmade natural colors. The natural colors are also born out of nature, born from flower petals, rocks and roots etc. I create these natural pigments with a process called “lake Pigment Making”. I have learnt the process on my own, through lots of trials and errors. Jamie from The Barefoot Dyer was very helpful and open, and helped me out with a lot of queries.
Initially when I was making these natural earth colours, I was sceptical about the hues that I will get eventually. But boy was I wrong! I have created so many, gorgeous shades and tints of reds, blues and yellows till now. With just a little adjustment in the quantity of the mordant and alkali agent, one can come up with multiple shades easily.
I love trees, and I’m worried about global warming. But even more than that, I love making things that are beautiful—and what could be more beautiful than something made entirely out of reusable and sustainable materials?
Every time someone places an order from my studio through my online art shop, I plant a tree in an effort to save our environment. My goal is to plant 1000 trees by the end of 2022, but with your help we can do it sooner! 😊
