About the Wood Block Carving Craft –
The art form of wooden block making was employed in textile printing for centuries in India. Printing blocks are also known as buntas, buntis, pur, biba or bibal and are made from well-seasoned woods. Printing with wooden blocks and the making of these blocks, is the probably the oldest method to print manually. These block were always carved by hand by skilled artisans who passed on their craft legacy to their next generations proudly. The pride of the block maker ran so deep that once these blocka were too old to be used for printing, they were immersed in rivers but never thrown away or burnt.
But lately, there has been a decrease in demand for block-printed fabrics, and as a result, a decline in block-making artisans following this amazing craft. Hence, this collection was born from the wish to lend a small, but willing helping hand to support Indian crafts and it’s artisans.
The purpose behind this collection –

He and his sons also mastered the art of intricate mughal technique of wood carving on blocks used for printing textiles. This collection was born from the wish to lend a small, but willing helping hand to support Indian crafts and it’s artisans.
