Water Lily on Red
Water Lily on Red – A forgotten part or a missing piece? A tiny slice of a larger pizza board was found in a junk yard. I was out searching for some new pieces to work on, in between one of the lockdown last year in 2020. I saw this tiny guy, under a pile of wooden logs. It looked so out of place. Like a lost child.
I bought it with a few other larger items for my upcycled functional art at Design5 Studio.
This wooden slice Water Lily on Red was so small that I was at a loss for ideas. I put up a small poll on my Instagram stories, to receive some wonderful ideas from my regular fans there. But when I actually sat down to implement those ideas on this small piece, I was confused again. I tried 2-3 of those ideas but none of them looked any good on this tiny area.
THE PROCESS
Finally I decided to just go with the flow and see where the brush strokes take me. I started with adding a very thick, layered mix of red and black to the background. This is my favorite way of layering up colors. I almost could see the rich, deep background asking to be embellished with bright florals now.
Once I drew a few brush strokes and three very delicate water lilies emerged in the foreground, I loved it all!
THE PRODUCT
This is a part of a much larger product set. It would look pretty on a wall somewhere, in your kitchen or a reading nook. You could also use it to decorate a wall next to your dining space. Actually… it would add a hint of charm to any space in your home. Its a unique piece, so be sure that everyone will ask about its origin whenever they spot in your Instagram posts. You can be candid, tell them about my Online Art Shop, and help my small creative business. OR you could keep it a secret and let your viewers be a lil jealous of your awesome find! 😛
Its totally up to you!
