LIGHTS – Functional Art light structures falls in that delicate space between sculptural and practical. It’s as if you have created the perfect mix between the left and right sides of the brain. A glowing art form that gives you a calm space and lifts the mood. Through these upcycled functional art ‘lights’, I try and explore a connection. There is an impact of the spectacle of impermanence. I chose a long and learning process of trying to uncover a beauty, that is born from rot. But it still raises a query about the transient nature of life itself.

All my artworks are covered in handpainted details. These patterns sometimes are inspired by Indian miniatures, floral bouquets of nature, childhood memories, my various travels across the country and sometimes from tribal art forms. These Upcycled Functional Art pieces do not need a purpose to showcase their beauty. A whole lot of found, rejected wooden candle sticks, broken lamp bases and other wooden objects make up this collection of upcycled and handpainted ‘lights’. They were initially manufactured as wooden candle holders or  wooden lamp stands but minor defects got them to the junk pile . But at Upcycld.Art, I turn them into Handpainted Functional Art. This is a unique and original art, hand-painted piece of art. Its usage is open to your own interpretation.
